Accessibility Statement
This website has been produced in accordance with Web Accessibility Initiative Guidelines. It is designed to allow all users the greatest possible access to website pages.
This page outlines what efforts have been made to do this and is intended as a technical document, you may find the Help With Using This Website page more useful for tips on using the website.
Information on this page is correct as of April 22nd 2004. While we always attempt to maintain a high standard of accessibility, updates and alterations may cause this information to become inaccurate.
Standards Compliance
All pages on this site are Bobby AAA approved. This is a judgement call as not all accessibility features cannot be measured. All of the current guidelines have been reviewed it is believed that this site is in compliance.
All pages on this site are WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) level 3 approved. Again, this is a judgement call as not all accessibility features cannot be measured and some guidelines are intentionally vague. All of the current guidelines have been reviewed it is believed that this site is in compliance.
All pages on this site validate as XHTML 1.0 Transitional with the exception of the Sign Language video pages*. This is not a judgement call; a program can determine with 100% accuracy whether a page is valid XHTML. For example, check the home page for XHTML validity.- All pages on this site use structured semantic markup. h1 tags are used for main titles, h2 and h3 tags for subtitles.
*Due to lack of browser support, the Sign Language video pages use markup that does not validate. This is in order to maintain maximum compatibility.
Links
- Wherever possible links are presented as plain text. Any links presented as graphics have been given appropriate titles to describe the link.
- Links are written to make sense out of context.
- Some images on this website use image maps containing links. All links created in this way have plain text alternatives.
AccessKeys
- AccessKeys are not used on this website due to no accepted standards for keyboard shortcuts, and clashes with other software. However the main navigation can be accessed by pressing F12 and then navigated with cursor keys. Also, all pages have a tab index to improve keyboard navigation.
Images
- All content images used in this site include descriptive ALT attributes. Purely decorative graphics include null ALT attributes.
Visual Design
- This site uses cascading style sheets for visual layout.
- This site uses only relative font sizes, compatible with the user-specified "text size" option in visual browsers.
- If your browser or browsing device does not support stylesheets at all, the content of each page is still readable.
- The colour scheme has been tested for suitable contrast and colour difference as well as being tested with a colour-blindness simulation.
